Purism and Poetry
SpiekermannPartners reworks the image of the porcelain manufacturer Hering Berlin.
Hering Berlin is the most internationally influential contemporary porcelain manufacturer. Hering Berlin has given a new edge to the traditional craft of porcelain making, complete with poetic purism and a clear stylistic vocabulary; extreme elegance, a generous use of biscuit porcelain and perfect craftsmanship. What is special about the Hering Berlin collection is the individual combinability of shapes and decor. It is comprised of 659 parts, from plates and bowls through to unique artistic objects.
We developed a concept for the general catalogue and the image brochure, the first objects to appear within the new corporate design system. The challenge lay in making the enormous diversity of the porcelain collection and the complexity of its shapes and decor understandable without representing them as a dry piece of printed paper, but rather as an exciting object. Each part of the collection has its own page in this 704-page book. The image brochure with its blind embossing, perforations, glossy varnish and metallic inks looks as much like porcelain as anything made of paper possibly can.
